Everything you need to know about IOS 14

Everything you need to know about IOS 14 –Features, news, and rumours

Apple will present the next version of its coveted iOS 14 operating system . The Cupertino giant is expected to hold an annual WWDC online-only developer event in June, where it will highlight iOS 14 features to be seen in the upcoming iPhone 12 and iPhone 9 / iPhone SE2.

Meanwhile, several rumors are circulating that the new features are coming to iOS 14. A leaked code from iOS 14 has hinted that this year's iOS update will bring unprecedented features.

Here is a summary of the news, rumors and features that we could see in iOS 14.

IOS 14 Features, rumors and news

Augmented reality features

An iOS 14 leak code obtained by 9to5Mac suggested that Apple plans to bring a number of augmented reality features this year. An AR application called "Gobi" is on the maps and, according to the code, will help users "get more information about the world around them."

There are rumors that Apple's AR app will be integrated into Apple Stores and Starbucks. The application will allow users to obtain more information about a product in an Apple Store simply by pointing their camera.

This feature of iOS 14 could usher in a trend in the smartphone industry and we could see AR technology resurface in 2020-2021.

Furthermore, Apple is also expected to launch Apple AR glasses sometime next year, and AR could be the first step in that direction.

New App View Screen

9to5Mac report based on the leaked code from iOS 14 says Apple plans to introduce a new screen where apps will be displayed in alphabetical order. IOS 14's new List View feature will also provide an option for users to order apps with different options. For example, you can sort apps by frequently used apps or apps with unread notifications and more.

Until now, iPhone users have seen apps by scrolling down the home screen or directly searching for apps. This upcoming iOS 14 feature will make searching for apps easier.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple will also embed Siri's suggestions into this list view screen to make it easier for users to access applications. For example, Siri might suggest opening the Starbucks app when you walk into a Starbucks store , or the Music app when you walk into your gym.

In-Built Call Recording Feature

Recently, a summary report indicated that iOS 14 could be released with a  in-built call recording feature found in many Android skins like OxygenOS. However, it was later revealed that the call recording feature is for internal debugging and may not be available to general users.

Functionality to use applications without downloading them

An earlier version of iOS 14 revealed a `` Clips '' feature that would not require you to download an app to use it. For example, you can watch a YouTube video on its native floating interface without downloading the YouTube app with the "Clips" feature.

Apple Pencil Features

There are no reports that Apple plans to introduce a new PencilKit with IOS 14 that will allow users to fill in the text fields using Apple's pen, which was converted to standard text. Imagine writing a message with Apple Pencil and sending it as a regular text message.

There is an Option to make third party apps the default app

iOS 14 was promoted as an option to make third-party apps the default app. With this iOS 14 feature, you can make Google Chrome your default browser and Gmail as the default email app on your iPhone.

This move could be seen as an effect of complaints against the company for providing an unfair advantage to its native applications.

Support For Third-Party Wallpapers

If you are a fan of custom wallpapers, this could be one of the best iOS 14 features for you. Apple plans to allow third-party wallpaper packages in the Settings app. The company may also propose new categories of wallpapers to help users classify and apply wallpapers.

New accessibility features

According to MacRumors, new accessibility features may roll out to iOS 14. Apple may include accessibility features like sound recognition for a doorbell, fire alarm, and more for hearing impaired users. In addition, Apple could add a function that allows the camera to detect and make gestures for people with visual disabilities.

New iMessage Features

Apple plans to introduce a number of features in iOS with iMessage 14 to make it easier to use. You can see the following new iMessage features in iOS 14:

Mention your contacts

iOS 14 could bring a Slack type mention system to tag your contacts in messages. With this feature, you can send a message to a person in a group chat. Also, if someone mentions you, you will receive a notification for the message even if you have disabled chat.

Mark as unread

With iOS 14, you can mark your iMessage as unread, remember important messages, and highlight them. It will be similar to the functions available in Gmail and WhatsApp.

Delete sent iMessage

This could be one of the most important features of iOS 14 for iMessage. Apple may offer a feature to remove sent iMessages. However, the fact that you have deleted a message will be visible to both the sender and the recipient of the chat.

Native app enhancements

Like every two years, Apple will make a lot of improvements to its native applications. Rumors have hinted that the company plans to update its Health app with a new sleep tracking feature that will be available on the next-generation Apple Watch.

Also, we could see new functions in Apple Maps, HomeKit and Find My apps with iOS 14.

System-wide support for a mouse cursor

Apple introduced a redesigned slider on its recently released iPad Pro to bridge the gap between an iPad and a computer. Along similar lines, we could see that iOS 14 provides system-wide support for the mouse cursor. In iOS 13, Apple also added support for a slider, but it was hidden in the accessibility settings. .

iPhones compatible with iOS 14

Last year, Apple surprised everyone by making iOS 13 compatible with devices as old as an iPhone SE, released in 2016. This year, we are expecting Apple to make iOS 14 compatible with the following iPhones:

  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max

It wouldn't be surprising if the next version of iOS 14 was compatible with iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus (via MacRumors ), but we're still not sure.
Release date of iOS 14

Apple has already announced the date for its annual WWDC developer conference. WWDC 2020 will take place on June 22 and will be a virtual event this year due to Covid-19. We expect the company to launch the iOS 14 Developer Beta in the coming days after WWDC 2020.

If previous years are a benchmark, we could see the public beta of iOS 14 in August. iOS 14 will officially arrive with the Apple Fall event, where the iPhone 12 series will launch.
